Ra Pegna is a short via ferrata ideal for beginners and families, and it can easily be combined with the more challenging route, Maria e Andrea Ferrari – Ra Bujela, located on the opposite Pomedes rock tower.

Access
We drive from Cortina d’Ampezzo toward Falzarego Pass, taking a right turn at the Baita Piè Tofana restaurant and the base station of the Duca D’Aosta chairlift, where a spacious parking lot awaits. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes from Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Approach to start
Take the chairlift (timetable and prices) or hike for about 1h – 1h30min on trail 405 to the Duca d’Aosta hut. From the Duca d’Aosta chairlift station walk a short distance on the ski slope, to the left rock tower. Before the base of the tower, follow a path to the left and reach the via ferrata cable.
Another option is to begin the approach from Rifugio Angelo Dibona, hike to Rifugio Pomedes, and then descend to the starting point of the via ferrata.
The route
The entire via ferrata is very well secured and offers a good climbing experience to those looking to begin their via ferrata journey and learn the basics.
Descent
The most obvious descent is between the two rock towers, near the chairlift, but be cautious, as the trail is steep. Another option is to hike up to Rifugio Pomedes and follow an easier trail south of the rock towers, leading back to Rifugio Duca d’Aosta.
Good to know
- Not recommended when wet because of the many earthy sections.
