About

This site is a personal project, where I try to list as many via ferratas in Europe as I can, on the homepage map, after researching them thoroughly. The grades follow the Austrian scale by Schall.

My research consists of:

  • finding and reading relevant online sources, usually non-English, which are linked for each route
  • verifying start coordinates for the approach to the wall and coordinates for the start of the route itself
  • checking available topos
  • double checking everything on several online maps
  • reading the latest comments and reviews for the routes, on Google maps and on other sites – I do this to check the current status of a route and to learn particularities from people’s own experiences on the route
  • I also climb as many routes as I can each year

I hope my research will help you too, but don’t skip doing your own research, from multiple sources, when planning to climb a new via ferrata.

Because I receive emails from fellow climbers requesting the addition of specific routes to the via ferrata map on the front page, I made this form available to you. Every route you send will be double-checked by me, as described above. Thank you for your contributions and suggestions!
