Access
By car or bus, we arrive in Alba, near Canazei, and take the cable car to Ciampac – check the timetable and prices. If hiking from Alba, add another 1 hour and 15 minutes to the approach on path 644.
Approach to start
From Ciampac, we briefly follow trail 644 downhill until a footpath branches off toward the base of the rock, heading southeast. We continue on this path, gaining elevation to the start of the via ferrata cable.
The route
Via Ferrata dei Finanzieri follows a natural line on the rock face. In the steeper section, located in the first half of the climb, many brackets facilitate our progression. The segment below the summit is an exposed slab, graded C. At the top, we are rewarded with views of Marmolada and all the major Dolomiti groups of Val di Fassa.
Descent
From the summit, we descend on the other side of the mountain on a via ferrata graded B, with most sections being A or A/B and partially secured. After this, we traverse grassy ledges and ascend to Forcia Neigra (2,509 m), then continue on paths 613 and 644 back to the mountain station.
Alternatively, from Forcia Neigra, we can hike to Alba by following paths 613 and 646 to Val de Contrin, then taking path 602 to our starting point.
Good to know
- On descent you might encounter snowfields at the beginning of the Summer season.
