Via ferrata Höhenweg – Ewige Wand (C) Austria

Ewige Wand is a short via ferrata located above the town of Bad Goisern. It is often combined with the Josef via ferrata, which runs below it and is typically climbed first. Other via ferratas — Mein Land – Dein Land, Leadership – Predigstuhl, and Lindwurm — offer a great opportunity to create a full circuit in a single day.

Access

From Bad Goisern, drive along the winding road above the town to reach the Rathlucken Hütte. If using public transport, take the train to Bad Goisern and continue on foot to the hut.

Approach to start

From Rathlucken Hütte, hike north toward Ewige Wand, following the rock-carved path until you reach the second tunnel.

Alternatively, if you plan to climb the other via ferratas in the area, you can start from the Predigstuhl car park and approach from there instead.

The route

The route begins with an exposed section where you clip your carabiners to the wire and step over a fence, with a significant drop below. It then continues with a slightly steep, overhanging ascent until reaching an easier exit section.

Descent

Keep left to reconnect with the Ewige Wand path that you used on the approach. If you started from the Predigstuhl car park near the hotel, keep right on path 245, then descend steeply on path 246.

Good to know

  • Along Ewige Wand there are numerous rock climbing routes.
  • Don’t forget about the Josef via ferrata. Before the first tunnel, you go over the fence and descend to the start of this route.
